Is It Okay to Water Plants in the Middle of a Sunny Day?

Hey everyone, I have a quick question about watering my plants. I was out in the garden this morning and decided to plant some new ones, and I watered them around midday. My neighbor popped over and kindly warned me that I shouldn't water during the heat of the day because it might harm the plants. I usually water my plants in the morning or evening, but I thought it was important to get the new ones some water right away. Can midday watering really hurt them, or is this something people worry about for no reason? Thanks for your thoughts!

I think the concern about scorching leaves is a bit overblown. If it has rained heavily before and the sun shines right after, the plants usually bounce back just fine! Watering during midday does lead to faster evaporation, so a lot of that water won't reach the roots, but when you’re planting new plants, you definitely need to water them, regardless of the time!

Exactly! Focus on watering the soil and the plants will be just fine. Under the sun, yes, you'll lose some water to evaporation, but keeping them hydrated is what matters most right after planting!

Don't sweat it too much! While it's generally better to water early or later in the day, those new plants really need that water right after planting. Just target the roots and try to limit water on the leaves. Plus, midday watering isn't going to scorch them in most cases; that's mostly a myth, though it can mean more water evaporates before it soaks in.

That's true! I usually wait until evening because it fits my schedule, but when I'm planting, I water whenever I can. It's all about keeping them alive and happy!
