I'm looking to add a 36" window to the exterior wall of my garage, which I believe is load-bearing. The window is mainly for natural light and ventilation. I've done some research into king studs, jack studs, headers, and such, so I feel somewhat prepared. I plan to hire an engineer to assess the wall and provide recommendations, including possible framing plans. My main concern is whether I can tackle the labor myself and finish it all in one weekend. I've received quotes from contractors that are way too high, so I'm hoping to do this myself with the right tools and materials.

How you handle this depends a lot on your siding. If it's vinyl, you could likely manage it as long as you have everything ready and start early in the day. Just make sure you have all the materials on-site before you begin.
You can definitely do it yourself, but expecting to finish everything in a weekend might be a bit much. You could maybe demo, reframe, and put the window in by then, but refinishing both the exterior and interior will probably take at least another weekend.
I think I'll demo and frame from the inside since it's just the garage. If it's just an open hole overnight, I should be fine, right?
