Hey everyone! I'm about to start my fourth year in electronics and communication engineering, and I need to submit a project. I've always wanted to create a smartphone prototype, and I have around 10 months to dedicate to this. Do you think it's achievable? If not, what are some realistic goals I should aim for instead? Also, I have to consider my budget. I'd like to keep it simple and not get too complicated. I've done some basic PCB designs and I'm comfortable working with Linux. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Just keep it straightforward! You already have some PCB design skills, which is a great start! Focus on essential components and don’t hesitate to simplify things if you get stuck. It's about having fun with the process and learning along the way!
You can definitely create a prototype! Some folks have made simple models using a Raspberry Pi Zero, a SIM800 cell module, and a touchscreen, all in a day! But just keep in mind that the complexity you want will dictate how much time and resources you'll need. It sounds doable, but make sure to set realistic expectations based on what you’re trying to achieve!
Absolutely! Start by looking for datasheets for the main chips used in smartphones. If you can’t find those, you might face some challenges. Also, think about what features you want in your prototype and what parts you’ll need. Having experience with PCB design and layout will definitely help too! How familiar are you with writing firmware or operating systems? If you’re just looking to build a basic prototype, that might be less of an issue, but it's something to consider!

I agree with TechieJoe88! Knowing what features you want will help you determine which components to search for. Don’t forget about potential tariff costs if you're ordering parts from abroad.
