Hey everyone! I'm a first-time homebuyer, and I'm super excited to dive into some home projects. One issue we're facing is that we're not thrilled with the color of our kitchen cabinets (check out this link for a photo: https://imgur.com/a/XLd1WcX). We're complete newbies when it comes to DIY, but we'd like to try painting them instead of replacing them since that can get pricey. We're aiming for a nice neutral beige or cream color. If we can paint these, could someone break down the steps for me? Do we need to sand first, then prime, and finally paint? What's the best way to ensure a good finish that won't peel off? Thanks a lot!

Honestly, I’d advise against painting if you plan to keep the wooden look—wood is making a comeback! Instead, maybe consider changing your flooring first. If the flooring clashes with the cabinet color, that might be something to think about.
Have you thought about staining instead of painting? If the cabinets can be sanded, just a new stain might give them a fresh look without covering up the wood completely.
You can definitely paint them, but just a heads up, the grain might show through the paint. If you want to avoid that, it's a pretty tedious process involving lots of filling and sanding. I recommend checking out some YouTube videos specifically on painting oak cabinets—it seems to be quite a project! Some folks have had success, but they say the effort can be overwhelming, so just keep that in mind before diving in.
If you do paint, make sure to apply a clear coat afterward to protect your finish. It really helps keep everything looking fresh and prevents damage over time.

We're definitely planning to replace our flooring with waterproof laminate, but I’m worried about how the cabinet color will mesh with it since we're leaning towards a warm brown tone. Just feels like too much wood! Maybe there's a middle ground we can find.
