Is It Possible to Use Both Central and Window AC Units in the Same House?

I live in a 2400 sq ft home that has two AC units, but one of them has stopped working. I'm wondering if it's feasible to have window AC units on one side of the house and central air on the other. Would the central unit get overworked and potentially burn out faster because of this setup? Appreciate any insights!

Of course you can mix them! Central AC is usually more efficient than window units, but having both gives you flexibility. Just keep in mind that window units are designed for specific rooms and won’t be able to circulate air throughout the house effectively, so that could create some uneven cooling.

Absolutely! A lot of people have a combo, like us. We have central downstairs and window units upstairs, so everyone can set their own comfort level. It can lead to cold spots for sure, but it often makes more sense to cool specific rooms, especially during heat waves. Plus, every bit of cooling from the window units can actually ease the load on your central system!

Exactly! The window units help reduce the stress on your central system. If you squeeze them into your setup, you'll get the bonus of keeping those rooms cool without running the central all the time.

Yeah, you can definitely use both types of AC in your house! The central unit is built to handle the total demand, so it shouldn't just "burn out" on you. Just make sure to size your window units appropriately for the rooms they're cooling.
