I'm currently renting a place with a cramped kitchen that lacks storage space. We received a ton of appliances as wedding gifts, which has motivated me to cook and avoid processed foods. I've considered different island options but they either seem flimsy or are too heavy and expensive. Instead, I'm thinking about just buying a few standalone cabinets and placing a butcher block on top for a countertop. This way, it's easier to disassemble when we move, which seems likely since we've been here five years. I'm looking for any potential flaws in this plan to adjust it before making a decision. Thanks in advance!

What you’re planning is pretty standard for kitchens! Basically, most kitchens are just a bunch of cabinets put together with a countertop on top. It sounds like you’re on the right track!
Absolutely, you can do that! That’s what I’m currently using as well—a setup that’s easy to mix and match. Just pick out some cabinets and a counter that works for you.
Yeah, it’s definitely doable! Just keep in mind you might want to do some extra work to make the sides of the cabinets look nice for an island setup. And securing everything really depends on your choice of cabinets and how stable you want it to be, but overall, it’s a solid idea!
For sure, just make sure to secure the cabinets together and possibly to the wall for added stability. Some people skip anchoring them to the floor, but it’s really about how you want to set it up.
Thanks for the tip! I wasn’t sure about the floor aspect.
Wow, cabinets and butcher blocks? Sounds like a quite the project! Good luck with it!
Not cool to throw shade, we’re all just trying to help each other out here!

That’s great to hear! I’m glad it’s working for you.
