Is it really okay to switch paint brands and types without issues?

I'm considering various contractors for a big cabinet painting job, and I'm curious about the implications of changing paint brands or types after discussions with these professionals. Some contractors I spoke with have a standard paint they always use (like SW Gallery or SW Emerald Urethane) while others say I can choose whatever I want, even if it differs from their usual recommendations. Is it possible for painters to easily switch paint types (like oil-based to latex) on the fly? Does the spray equipment they use play a role in this process?

You can usually let the contractor use whatever paint you want since their spray guns can handle a variety of brands. However, I'd recommend sticking with what they're familiar with. They'll know how to mix it right, how to prep, and how long it takes to dry, which can be crucial for the quality of the outcome. My painter only uses specific brands for exteriors to avoid callbacks. If you suggest something different, just be aware it might not turn out as well.
