I live in zone 6b, and my last frost date is May 2nd, which is actually earlier than usual for me. Since April 17th, we've had no frost, and the forecast looks promising with nighttime lows in the mid-40s and daytime highs between 60-80°F with some rain. I've already planted a chunk of my garden but am holding off on sensitive plants like tomatoes for now—though I might risk it and plant them before May 2nd anyway. This is the earliest I've ever started planting! If frost does pop up, I'll be out there covering my plants while regretting my choices! Would love to hear if anyone else is taking the plunge early!

I check the 10-day forecast leading up to my last frost date, then decide based on that. I usually don't plant anything sensitive until I'm sure there's no frost risk. Better safe than sorry!

Let's be clear: when discussing annual planting, talking about last frost dates is way more relevant than just mentioning the hardiness zones. They really only apply to perennials in terms of winter survival.
