Hey everyone! I've been eyeing the M18 Fuel 6.5" circular saw for a while, but I haven't seen any good sales at Home Depot or other online stores. I found a few on eBay for around $150, and I'm curious about buying an open box item from a reputable seller. I understand that I might lose out on the full warranty from the date of purchase, but I'd like to know if there are any other risks or downsides to consider when purchasing open box tools on eBay. Thanks in advance for your help!

I've bought several tools listed as 'open box' on eBay, and they've all arrived in brand new condition, usually just without the original box. I've had no issues at all! Many times, these items are either returned or sold without proper packaging. I’ve got everything from an M18 orbital sander to an impact driver this way and would say it's a solid choice as long as the seller is reputable. Just be prepared to check the item closely when it arrives.
You should definitely make sure the seller has good reviews and offers free returns if possible. There's always a risk of receiving something that's not as described, especially now with counterfeit tools being a concern. Verify with pictures online to ensure what you're getting is legit. eBay does have a money-back guarantee, so if anything goes wrong, you're generally covered.
Open box usually means the item is new but may have been handled or opened at some point. Sometimes, you might encounter tools that lack full warranty coverage if the original purchase date was a while ago. If you’re okay with that risk, then it could be a good deal. I’ve scored decent tools this way, but just keep an eye out for those too-good-to-be-true prices.
