Is it Safe to Drill into Plasterboard Walls with a Wire Detector Going Off?

I just moved into a new build, and it seems like my walls are made of plasterboard. In my previous Victorian flat, I always used a wire detector before drilling, but here, the detector goes red everywhere. I'm worried about wiring behind the walls. Is it safe to drill into them, or should I avoid it?

You might be dealing with metal lath under that plaster, which can interfere with your detector. Typically, wires are supposed to run vertically and horizontally from outlets and switches, so most of your wall shouldn’t be packed with cables. But it’s still smart to be cautious!
