Is It Safe to Eat Potatoes Grown in My Compost Bin?

Asked By PotatoPal123 On

I had some leftover cut seed potatoes and tossed them into my compost bin, not expecting anything to happen. To my surprise, they've actually started to grow quite well! Now I'm wondering, is it safe to eat these potatoes considering they're growing in compost made up of lawn trimmings, leaves, twigs, and, of course, some creepy crawlers?

Haha, I'm in the same boat! My compost is sprouting a bunch of potatoes too! It’s like the gardening gods are laughing at my past potato troubles.

They're totally safe to eat! I've had the same thing happen, and they turned out great. Just make sure to prepare them properly!

You’ll be washing and cooking them anyway, so you’re good to go. Just treat them like any other potatoes you’d buy from the store!

Yeah, definitely! Just make sure to cook them well before eating. That should take care of any worries you might have.
