Is it Safe to Plant Store-Bought Potatoes Before the Last Frost Date?

I have store-bought potatoes that have been sprouting for about three weeks, and my last frost date is April 27th. I'm wondering if I should go ahead and plant them or if I should wait to avoid any frost damage. Any advice?

You can plant them, just keep an eye on frost warnings. If it looks like it might frost, you can cover any shoots with a plastic sheet to protect them.

You can definitely plant them, but just be cautious since frost can affect the yield. Generally, it’s safe to plant 2-4 weeks before your last frost date as long as the soil is warm enough—around 50°F is ideal. If you have some warm, wet weather coming up, I’d go for it, especially since these are just store-bought spuds.

That sounds good! The weather forecast looks perfect for planting, so I'm going to get my hands dirty today.

Should I cut the eyes off the potatoes before planting, or just drop the whole thing into the hole?
