Hey everyone! I'm looking to add a TV to my room, but I can't really move my bed since it's squeezed between two walls. I'm considering installing a floating shelf to put the TV on, but I've heard mixed advice. Some folks say to mount it directly to the wall, but that sounds complicated, and I'll be balancing on my bed for a while. I just want to attach the shelf and place my TV along with my Nintendo Switch dock. My main concern is whether the shelf can hold the TV securely without it tipping over, especially with the cables hanging. Has anyone done this before? Any tips or thoughts on whether this setup is a good idea? By the way, I'm in the UK, so I'm wondering if that factors into the wall structure.

It really depends on the TV's weight. A heavier old-school CRT? Maybe not on a shelf. But a lighter LCD should be fine as long as you secure it well. Just ensure the shelf is mounted to something sturdy, and consider adding a safety strap to stop it from tipping! You could even take it a step further and use adhesive Velcro to attach your Switch dock to the wall to save space.
Honestly, I’ve had floating shelves sag on me when I put too much weight on them, so I’d be cautious. If you go this route, test it out first with some weights before putting the TV up. I think a wall mount might be a safer choice in the long run!
Mounting the shelf is actually pretty similar to mounting the TV itself. Just keep in mind that there's a bit of risk involved with this setup if you're not careful. If you're gonna go for it, make sure the shelf is attached properly, and don't overload it!
