I don't have a garage or enough room inside my house for a chest freezer, so I'm considering placing one on my uncovered back porch. I'm planning to use a soft cover like a grill cover for protection. I'm also thinking of getting a 'garage ready' freezer. Is this a good idea, especially considering that our temperatures range from 10°F to 90°F?

A garage-ready freezer is designed for more extreme temperatures, working in conditions from 0°F to 110°F. Just avoid covering the freezer itself and instead, create shade for the area. Keeping it sheltered from the sun will help it function better.
Using a grill cover isn't the best option since it could restrict airflow and cause overheating. Instead, consider adding an awning or something that permits air circulation around the freezer.
You can definitely keep a chest freezer outside, but make sure it’s shaded and never in direct sunlight, even with a cover. The heat from sunlight can cause the motor to work harder, leading to premature failure. Just keep it cool and shaded!
