Is it Safe to Replace Just One Part of My Foundation Wall?

I've got a corner of my foundation perimeter wall that's seen better days. The whole perimeter is about 100 feet, but only 10 feet of it is really deteriorating. I had a few folks check it out, and the most practical recommendation was to just replace that bad section for now and address the rest later when necessary. Does that sound like a reasonable approach to someone who's not exactly a foundation expert?

There are a lot of factors to consider. If you’re working with a crawl space and the soil doesn’t shift much, then replacing that section might be alright. But if you have a full basement or unstable soil conditions, the job could get tricky. You might need to dig further out to put in some supports to hold back the soil and reinforce the other sections too. It can get complicated!

Thanks for the insight! I totally forgot to mention that it’s a crawl space. I think the soil around here is mostly clay, which sounds pretty stable.

Yeah, replacing that section should be fine as long as you've got the floor joists supported properly. Just remember to brace the trench so it doesn’t cave in on you.
