I just installed a new clothes dryer in my garage and turned off the gas valve for safety during the installation. Now I'm wondering if it's safe for me to turn the valve back on myself, or do I need to call the gas company? The only valve I need to turn back on is for the dryer, as my water heater is already gas and still on. Any advice would be appreciated!

Before turning the gas back on, definitely check for any leaks, since that’s super important. If you know how to do that, you should be good to go! Just a heads up, check the pipes and connections after you turn it on to make sure there's nothing leaking.
Yeah, worth doing a thorough check! I usually use a soapy water solution to swab the joints. It helps show small leaks that might not be noticeable otherwise.
Honestly, just go for it! But seriously, if the house ends up blowing up, let us know. We’re all concerned here!
I'll keep everyone updated! ?
You should be totally fine to turn it back on yourself! Just make sure everything’s snug but don’t overtighten it. After you turn it on, check for any gas smells. If you smell anything, then shut it off and call a pro.
Will do! How will I know if everything ignites properly?
Make sure that all the gas appliances start without issue when you turn them back on. If you've got any pilot lights, just relight those if needed.

Is there more to leak checking than just sniffing around?
