Hey everyone! My Overhead Door brand 0.5 HP garage door opener just died on me, and I'm thinking about replacing it. I have a two-car garage with a 7-foot aluminum door, which isn't in perfect shape (the top panel has had its share of bends). I found a Chamberlain 1.25 HP opener at Costco with tons of features, and it's a great deal. My concern is if it's safe to go up in horsepower like that. Can I safely use this more powerful opener with the force settings turned down, or should I stick to a less powerful model with fewer features for a similar price? Appreciate any advice!

Honestly, you can’t really have too much horsepower in a residential opener! A higher HP just means it can handle heavier doors, but it won't use more force than necessary for your current door. So, no worries—go ahead and get that 1.25 HP opener!
