Hey everyone! I'm working on stripping paint from my century home's porch, railings, and columns. Some of the layers contain lead paint, but most don't. I've been applying a lot of paint stripper, but there are areas with so many layers that it's taking ages. I'd like to know if it would be safe to use a heat gun for these tough spots, given that I'm wearing a respirator and doing this outside in fresh air. What do you think?

I think you need to use a proper vapor respirator if you go that route. Even outside, the heat gun will generate vapor that isn't safe. It's crucial to have the right equipment!
Using fresh air is definitely a plus! Just remember that respirators can have gaps, and when using a heat gun, it can create vapors that are really tough to filter out. A hand scraper or sanding might actually be safer for you. Stay cautious and maybe check out some lead paint removal videos online for more tips.
Extreme caution is key here. You really don't want to underestimate lead paint removal. Make sure you have proper ventilation and follow safety protocols. I remember working with lead paint in my younger days, and it's something that stays with you, believe me!
Thanks for sharing your experience! I definitely want to avoid any long-term issues.

Appreciate the advice! I’ll look into those videos!
