Is it safe to use boiled rice water for my indoor plants?

I cooked rice in a bag using boiling water and let the water cool down. Instead of just dumping it, I'm thinking of watering my indoor plants with it. Is that a good idea, or could it cause problems with the plants? Just to add, the rice didn't turn out great!

Sorry to hear about your rice! Honestly, you might want to get a rice cooker; it makes everything much easier. This time was a bust, but don’t worry, we all have cooking fails!

I have a rice cooker too, but tried to save time with this method. Never doing that again! I'm generally good at cooking, but rice? Total fail.

Using that boiled rice water on indoor plants isn't the best choice. The starches can lead to fungal growth and mildew on your plants. It might be fine for outdoor plants if you didn’t add any salt while cooking, but for indoors, I'd steer clear.

No salt added.

If no rice starch got into the water, then you should be fine using it on your indoor plants. Just keep an eye out for any negative effects after you water them!

If you cooked the rice in a bag with holes, then there’s definitely some starch in that water. Instead, I’d recommend just composting it or throwing it in an urban compost bin—it’s safer for your plants!

Still, I’d be cautious using any water from cooked rice, just to be safe!
