Is It Safe to Use Grey Water from My Shower or Bath for the Garden?

With this summer being exceptionally dry, I'm curious if anyone has successfully connected their shower or bath drain to a water butt for gardening purposes. I've read that the RHS mentions it's okay to do this, but they caution against storing the grey water for too long. Has anyone tried this, and what tips do you have?

I used to do this when I had a water meter and my setup was convenient. I would siphon water from the butt easily. These days, I'm in a rental and haven’t bothered, but it really helped in the past when we had droughts!

I actually have a diverter set up that channels water into two bins that I use for watering. Just remember to use the water within a day, and avoid using it on anything edible. It's worked great for me!

I've been using grey water from my bathroom for about three or four years now. I've got a system where all the water gets funneled into three connected water butts. I even have a pump in one of them for easy watering with a hose. My plants are thriving, and I haven't faced any issues. Just a tip: adding a filter to your downpipe helps keep any debris out!
