Is It Safe to Use My Cat's Coconut Coir Litter as Fertilizer?

I've switched to using coconut coir as a more sustainable and eco-friendly alternative to traditional clumping clay litter for my cat. My cat seems to love it! Now, I'm curious—after I've scooped out the poop, can I use the spent coir litter to fertilize my garden? I know cat feces can be toxic, but what about the litter itself?

While I agree with most here, I think it could potentially be okay for ornamental gardens! Just be cautious—maybe avoid using it around veggies. A good heavy watering can help dilute any remaining urine, but I’d still hesitate personally.

I wouldn't recommend it! Even if you remove the poop, cat urine is really concentrated with ammonia, which can harm your plants. Plus, there's the risk of toxoplasmosis. Just be safe and avoid using it in your garden.

lilgreenthumbs: Yeah, I've heard that too! It's just not worth the risk when it comes to edible plants.

natureNerd_88: Definitely, there are safer options for composting and fertilizing!
