Hey everyone! I was just wondering if using PVC tubes for the exhaust of a rangehood is alright. My contractor mentioned it's fine, but I'm not so sure. What do you all think?

When I installed my rangehood, it came with a flexible metal pipe, but after checking the local codes in Texas, I switched to rigid metal to avoid grease buildup—which can lead to fires. I found everything I needed at Home Depot! Plus, I used some fire retardant putty for added safety where the pipe passes through the ceiling.

Be sure to check your local building codes. In many places, you're only allowed to use metal ducting for rangehoods. It might save you a lot of hassle and keep everything safe!

Using PVC for rangehood exhaust is actually not okay. When PVC burns, it releases toxic gases, which is really dangerous. Metal ducting is the way to go, and ideally, you should use rigid metal pipes instead of flexible ones.
