Hey everyone, my sister's basement got flooded back in August, and now that the disaster restoration company is wrapping up renovations, I noticed they've put a drop ceiling in the shower stall. I'm not much of a renovator, but I'm curious if this seems like a mistake on their part or just plain wrong. I'm planning to call them tomorrow, and I want to make sure I have all the right info before the conversation.

Yeah, putting a drop ceiling in a shower stall sounds like a terrible idea! You definitely have a right to question that—moisture and steam can lead to mold and mildew up there. Not ideal at all!
What kind of material are those ceiling panels made of? If it's just regular drop ceiling tiles, that's a red flag. You want something that's going to hold up against moisture, not trap it!
Definitely a risk for mold! Even with a vent, steam can still accumulate up there. Honestly, drop ceilings shouldn't be in a bathroom with a shower, no matter the venting setup. It just doesn't seem like a wise choice.
Exactly my thoughts! The whole ceiling is drop ceiling, and while there's a vent, it still feels risky. What do you guys suggest I tell them about this?

Not sure yet, but they look like regular drop ceiling panels with a modern look. I'll grab some pics tomorrow so we can take a closer look.
