Is It Time to Upgrade My Hollow Core Front Door?

I live in a 1958 house that still has its original front door, which feels very lightweight, and I suspect it's a hollow core. I'm considering upgrading to something more secure and efficient, like a steel prehung door with windows. However, I'm concerned that the windows might compromise the security and efficiency benefits of replacing the current door. Any thoughts on whether this upgrade is worthwhile?

This is an easy decision! Hollow core doors just don't hold up for exterior use. Aside from security, their thermal sealing isn't great either. You’re right to think about windows, but a strong prehung door with glass can be both secure and stylish. Just ensure it's well-installed!

Absolutely, you should replace that hollow core door! They're typically not meant for exterior use and can be broken into easily. A solid exterior door will provide much better security and thermal insulation. Just make sure to choose one that fits your home style—like a nice steel door with the windows you were considering, but keep in mind that windows can affect the door's strength.

Yep, definitely not a hollow core door you're dealing with! But regardless, hollow cores aren't designed for the outside, and a solid door will make a huge difference in security and energy efficiency. Visit your local lumberyard for options, they often have knowledgeable staff that can help you find the right door.
