Is It Too Late to Plant Seeds in Zone 9?

I'm really excited about this idea of chaos gardening that my therapist introduced me to. Last year, I had a huge bush removed from a sunny spot in my yard, and it's just sitting there waiting for something to grow. My dad, who's 81 and has been gardening all my life, says I should've started my seeds a while ago, but I'm wondering if it's too late to try now. I want to give it a shot, even though it's super cold outside and I usually wait for nicer weather to get motivated.

I have cancer, so getting to stores for live plants is tough. I usually buy plants like jasmine and roses online, and they really bring me joy as I watch them thrive. I've finally gotten the hang of caring for my orchids, and my bathroom is great for air plants. I even have succulents in my bedroom window! I'm just really passionate about plants. So, am I wasting my time trying to plant seeds this late, or should I just go for it?

I say just go for it! I’m in zone 5, and I always try to plant seeds regardless of when it is. Maybe look for quick-growing options like cosmos and zinnias; they handle heat well. Even if it's late, you might still get something to sprout!

Totally! Plus, it’s not going to be cold forever. Just make sure to keep them alive through the heat, especially in Texas!

Definitely go for it! I’m planning to plant some heat-loving annuals, like zinnias and cosmos, as well. You can stagger them to have color all summer. Honestly, is there anything happier than a zinnia?

You should definitely try planting some native wildflower seeds! They’re naturally adapted to your environment and should require less maintenance. Plus, they can really brighten up your space!

Yes, native wildflowers are a great choice! They’re not only good for the environment, but they're also super low maintenance.

It's not too late at all! Just keep in mind that zone 9 includes a variety of locations like Texas and Georgia. Climate is more important than just the zone. I haven’t planted any seeds outside yet myself, and I’m in coastal Washington. Do you mind sharing where you’re located? There's often info available on when to plant for specific areas.

I'm in Houston, Texas!

I’d roll the dice and give it a shot! You might have to pay a bit more attention to them, but there are definitely plants that will do fine even this late in the season.
