Is It Too Late to Start Sowing Seeds This Spring?

Hey everyone! I've been trying to help my mom get her huge vegetable garden ready this year, but life threw a lot at me, and I've only just found time to dive in. I'm in zone 7a, and I'm wondering – is it too late for me to start sowing seeds this season? I feel bad because I spent $50 on seedlings but it's just not enough for the garden. What kinds of vegetables should I actually plant this late in the game? Any suggestions would be super helpful!

Go for it! Direct sowing seeds can work really well, especially in warm weather. Just make sure you're investing in quality seeds to avoid disappointment. Remember to use summer varieties for cool-weather crops, as some might bolt or come out small if planted too late. Also, it’d be a good idea to mix some organic fertilizer and compost into the soil for better growth.

In zone 7a, you're still in good shape! The only things that might be a little late are peas, greens, and onions, but you could still plant onions. You can definitely still sow peas and greens for a fall harvest!

It really depends on what you want to sow. For nightshades like peppers and tomatoes, it's better to buy those as plants. You can still plant cucurbits, corn, and beans directly in the ground now. If you're thinking about starting broccoli or Brussels sprouts, start them under lights next month for a fall planting. Also, don’t forget about cool-season crops like lettuce and radishes for a fall harvest!
