Is It Worth Going to College for Landscaping and Tree Surgery?

I'm looking for some advice on whether I should invest in a college course for landscaping and tree surgery. I'm currently living in the UK and the course only costs £40 for a Level 2 Diploma. I've been doing work experience with a tree surgeon and a landscaper, and I really enjoy it! However, I'm feeling torn between getting the qualification or just getting some licenses, like chainsaw certification, and trying to find work straight away. I'm 24 and currently stuck in a retail job that I dislike. Should I quit my job to gain more work experience, or is it better to secure the diploma first? What do you all think?

It's great that you're gaining hands-on experience! You might want to consider finding a company that offers on-the-job training—they're often willing to teach. While going to school can definitely help, especially for specialized roles, many people break into the field without formal education. Just make sure to network and ask those you're working with about their paths; they might have valuable insights!

Definitely! A friend of mine studied horticulture and has had a fantastic career. Passion and experience matter more than degrees, but a formal qualification can give you an edge in competitive situations. Since you're in the UK and the cost is low, I say go for it!
