Is it Worth Insulating and Drywalling My Garage?

I just bought a house with an attached garage that doesn't have insulation and only has open stud walls. Is it a good idea to drywall it and add insulation, especially considering I live in the Northeast US? Any advice?

Absolutely worth it! I insulated and drywalled mine, and it really improved the environment in my garage. It keeps it cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. Plus, when I sold my house, potential buyers appreciated that update.

I did this project last year and don’t regret it at all. It makes the garage much more usable year-round, and it's a wise investment for the long term. I could feel the difference in winter and summer—the temperature is so much nicer for working on projects.

I had a similar situation. Drywalling is a must for fire safety and insulation in cold climates is a game changer. It helps keep your car warmer and can even make your home more comfortable by reducing heat loss. Just make sure to address moisture issues if your garage is older!

Good point! Managing moisture is super important. I dealt with that after drywalling, and it wasn't fun.

If your garage is attached to your house, I definitely recommend doing it. Insulating helps maintain a more stable temperature, especially in winter. I live in a cold area and love my insulated garage; it keeps the cold at bay and provides some extra space.

Totally agree! My garage stays warmer, making a big difference when I need to park my car or work in there.
