Is It Worth It to Spend More on High-End Solar Panels for My Carport?

I'm diving into the world of solar energy for a carport setup and I'm considering a Chiko carport with potentially 48 panels. I've seen many DIY enthusiasts use brands like Sirius, Aptos, or Canadian Solar, which are priced between $150 and $200 each. I'm wondering if there's a good reason to invest in premium panels like the REC Alpha Pure RX, which cost around double that. Am I missing something important here? Just to add, I'm also planning to use EG4 products for the rest of my system.

I think premium panels are only worth it if you're running short on roof space. Otherwise, you can just add more lower-cost panels and get the same output for less money. It's all about balancing your budget with the energy you want to produce!

One thing to consider is that panels like REC usually come with more bypass diodes, which really helps if your system has any shading issues. Plus, those panels are built tougher, able to handle snow and wind better. If the price difference isn't insane, I'd lean toward the REC. But if they're really double the price, stick with more affordable brands that still perform well.

If your space is limited, go for those premium panels. When you're not constrained for space, cheaper panels can be more cost-effective. The difference in efficiency between lower-cost panels and high-end ones might seem small, but it can actually lead to noticeably better generation if you're tight on area. Just remember, paying extra doesn't always mean you're getting substantial gains in performance. Honestly, I'd stick with the lower-cost ones if you have room for more panels.

Absolutely! Always check warranty options. Sometimes the cheaper panels have shorter lifespans too!

That makes sense! Should I consider warranty and degradation rates for the cheaper panels? That might be a factor.
