I've been having my property sprayed for mosquitos for years, but the prices have skyrocketed recently—almost doubled! I have about 2.5 acres, but a lot of it is wooded, so not all of it gets sprayed. I'm thinking of buying my own sprayer and insecticide since it feels like that could save me money in the long run. Has anyone tried spraying their own property? Is it cost-effective?

I used to spray too, but I stopped because those chemicals end up killing beneficial insects like bees and butterflies. Instead, I recommend tackling standing water and cleaning your gutters; that's a low-cost option that works well to reduce mosquito populations. Plus, don't forget about the natural predators—birds and bats can help control the mosquito numbers!

I'm thinking of taking a break from spraying to see how it goes. I keep my landscape in check, so the mosquitos aren't a huge issue; I mainly want to minimize them since we hang out by the pool a lot in the summer. Horseflies are the real pests for me; nothing really seems to deter them!
