I've been using the Milwaukee M18 drill (with hammer mode) and impact driver, but I recently switched to the Makita 18V tools. I really liked the Makita for its weight and feel, but now I'm considering going back to Milwaukee and getting the M12 because it's super lightweight. They're on sale at Home Depot for $250 for both the drill and impact, plus I can pick an extra tool for free. I'd actually save $200 if I switch. The heaviest work I usually do includes drilling with a paddle bit (1 inch) into 1/2" plywood and occasionally using tapcons. What do you guys think?

The M12 should handle your needs just fine! The only thing to keep in mind is that you'll likely notice a shorter work time with a 12V system compared to an 18V one, so be prepared for that.
