I'm considering switching from propane to natural gas for my small house in northwest Indiana, which is used about a quarter of the time. We currently have a 120-gallon propane tank from the previous owner, but our experiences with the local LP company have been frustrating—like waiting five weeks for a fill-up during a deep freeze. We've looked into natural gas service from NIPSCO, which some of our neighbors have. I already have a gas furnace, stove, and instant-on water heater, but I need to know if switching is worthwhile. The installation costs are around $2500, which includes bringing a gas line to my house and plumbing work. While I know natural gas could be more reliable and cheaper in the long run, I'm looking for advice on the pros and cons of switching versus sticking with LP. Any insights would be appreciated!

Natural gas definitely seems like the way to go, especially for the convenience factor! You could keep the LP tank just for your grill or an outdoor stove if you want to use it occasionally. It saves you from worrying about running out of gas, plus you might end up saving a lot on heating bills.
If I had the chance to switch to natural gas, I’d do it in a heartbeat, no matter the cost! The stability in pricing is a big win. My LP price fluctuates a lot, and it freaks me out thinking about it spiking. Going with natural gas means you’ll have much less hassle, plus you could always sell your propane tank later to offset some costs.

Totally agree! I switched to natural gas, and it's fantastic not having to keep an eye on the fuel levels anymore.
