Is it worth the cost to tear down walls for insulation during renovations?

I own an older home with no insulation in the walls. I'm gearing up for a major renovation that includes repiping, rewiring, and updates to the bathroom, kitchen, roofing, windows, and doors—basically revamping the whole place. The contractor suggested that since we'll be opening up the walls for rewiring, it would be smart to tear down all the walls and ceilings to add insulation. This would enhance indoor temperature control and cut down on noise levels. However, this move could add around $30K to my budget, and I'm hesitant about spending that much. I could defer flooring, which costs about $10K, but I'd still need to budget another $20K. I plan on adding attic insulation too, as I've heard it helps with temperature fluctuations. While I see the advantage of doing everything at once, $20K is quite a sum. What do you all think?

You might actually save some cash with your plumbers and electricians since it’s much easier for them to work when the walls are open. They can also clear out any old, unused pipes and wires, which makes it worth considering!

It’s true that many homes lack insulation in interior walls. Your contractor makes a valid point—adding insulation can definitely help reduce noise. But keep in mind it might impact how evenly your AC distributes air throughout the house. If your system isn’t already balanced, it could lead to some rooms getting hotter or colder than others.

What do you mean by negatively affecting the temperature balance? I’ve always lived in insulated homes and just bought this place. I won’t move in until the renovations are done, so I’m learning as I go!
