I usually buy the cheap green HVAC filters and swap them out monthly. However, I recently had to replace August's filter much earlier because it got super dirty from all the dust created during some renovations at home. Since I'll be doing more sanding and cleaning, should I consider upgrading to a MERV 5 filter?

Upgrading to a higher MERV filter could be a good choice since they catch more particles. Just keep in mind that as they collect dust, they become more restrictive. If it were me, I'd switch to a higher MERV and closely monitor it, especially during renovations. You might even need to change it weekly due to all the dust!
