Is Landscape Fabric a Good Idea Under Mulch for an Unlevel Playground?

I'm considering adding mulch to a playground area that's on a slope with a grade of about 10-15%. I'm wondering if I should use fabric underneath the mulch to prevent it from sliding away. Will the mulch just slide off the fabric if the ground isn't level?

Honestly, I would skip the fabric! It can cause more issues than it solves, especially with mulch. If you choose a good quality triple shred mulch, it should stay put even on a slope, unless there’s a lot of heavy drainage going through. Just make sure to spread it thick enough!

I've heard mixed things about landscape fabric too. While it might help reduce weeds, it can also make the mulch unstable since rain can wash it around. Just be sure to pack your mulch down well. You might want to keep it a tad thicker in the sloped areas!
