I recently lost a lovely laurel that separated my garden from my neighbor's, and I'm eager to replace the greenery and privacy it provided. I'm in the process of building a large planter and installing a trellis with the intention of planting some hardy climbing plants. I've heard that clematis montana is a fast grower, but everything I've read suggests it's best planted in early to mid-autumn. I'm wondering if it's still okay to plant it in late October? If clematis montana isn't a good option, can anyone recommend another climbing plant that would thrive if planted at this time? My garden is sunny and south-facing, located in the West Country. Thanks in advance!

Evergreen star jasmine is a solid choice! Pair it with different types of jasmine and clematis, including evergreen options for variety. I’ve opted for some interesting yet slower-growing types, which can be just as appealing as montana varieties.

Thanks! If I plant several different types of climbers close together, do they usually coexist well?
