Is life today more frightening than during the Cold War?

I'm curious about whether we should be more scared right now than people were during the Cold War. My dad believes that things are worse today, especially with the rising costs of living and political unrest. What do you all think?

That's a tough one. I lived through the Cold War as a kid and later served in the military during that time. Honestly, I don't know if things are worse now or just different. I think it's just easier to access information now, so we feel more aware of the chaos around us. Sure, it looks like we’re in for a bumpy ride in the next several years, but I'm not really afraid. Back then, we had the real threat of nuclear war looming over us. Now, the scare seems to come from a bunch of old politicians talking tough but not really acting on it.

While I don’t think you need to be overly afraid, you definitely should be concerned about the direction things are heading in. Living in the U.S., it's clear that stability is declining, yet the military power is still formidable. If you’re managing on just beans and rice, it might be time to reassess your finances. I've been there—working multiple jobs just to scrape by. Learning to cook well and stretch ingredients can help. You can make a small piece of meat last longer by using it in soups or dishes with beans and vegetables. Also, consider cutting back on non-essential expenses. Survival isn't easy, but it could be a stepping stone to a better situation.
