I've been getting some advice about using maple for my desk drawers, but my shop teacher, who isn't the most reliable source on woodworking, says it will warp too much. She's suggesting I go with ash instead. Is that true? Should I stick with ash or is maple a solid choice for drawers?

Even though ash is easier to work with, maple is widely used and loved in furniture making. If you choose maple, just remember that your drawer design should accommodate wood expansion and contraction.
Maple is actually a great choice for drawer construction. All types of wood can warp, but with proper techniques, you can totally manage it. Just ensure your design accounts for any potential movement, and you should be good to go!
Absolutely! Well-made maple drawers can stand the test of time.
Maple makes fantastic drawer boxes. You’ll even find pre-cut and pre-finished maple plywood available for those who want to skip the hassle. Plus, there’s a whole industry around maple drawer making, so it's definitely a popular choice.
I’ve come across some pre-finished birch plywood too, it’s also a good find for making drawers.

That’s true! I’ve used poplar successfully for drawers, but I still think maple has its merits.
