I'm planning to mount a Tesla Wall Connector in my garage and want to do it between some studs. The connector itself weighs around 11 pounds. I'm thinking about using a 2' x 4' black MDF board to mount it to the studs over the drywall. I prefer the look of solid black MDF over painting plywood black, but I'm wondering if MDF will hold up in this situation. Also, what's the right thickness for the MDF that I should buy?

Make sure to use something non-flammable and resistant to moisture. You want it to last and not risk any safety issues, so choosing the right material is key!
I would actually recommend against using MDF for something like this. It's better to go with high-quality plywood instead because MDF can be less durable, especially in a garage environment.
I think MDF is totally fine for this project. I’d suggest going for the MDF with a shiny veneer since it's easy to clean and won’t get damaged if you accidentally bump into it. Just remember to consider how you want to hang the charger cable, as some people have found that hanging it can be tricky. Get creative with the installation!
Using snap toggle bolts is a solid plan! With those, you'll have zero issues mounting it securely, and it won't come off the wall easily. Go for it!
Thanks for the suggestion! I’ll definitely consider the toggle bolts.

Great point! I’ll keep that in mind when I install it.
