I've been getting into container gardening and I'm curious if anyone here has had success using Mel's Mix instead of the potting mix I tried last year. I ordered the 4th edition of Square Foot Gardening, but most of my containers struggled, apart from my herbs. I used an organic vegetable container mix from Lowe's. I'm planning to grab some seeds from Baker Creek and maybe some starter plants from local shops. Any advice?

Good point! I'm looking to set up my containers outdoors, like a patio garden. My back patio is northwest facing, so it should get a decent amount of sun throughout the day.
If you're aiming for outdoor containers, just make sure they get enough light and the right moisture. When using Mel's Mix, it's crucial to monitor how often you water, especially in warmer weather.
I’ve had great success starting my square foot gardens with Mel's Mix! Initially, it worked wonders, but I made the mistake of topping it off with store-bought soil later on. Honestly, that was a bad idea. Finding quality compost in my area has been tough, so if you can score good ingredients, stick with Mel’s Mix. Also, I had self-watering systems set up that I removed, and I wish I hadn’t—I'll definitely be re-adding those this year!
