I'm in the early stages of designing some garden paths and I'm considering using corten-type metal edging. However, I've never worked with metal before and I'm concerned about how sharp it might be, especially since I have a lively pack of Pyrenees dogs. I understand that the edging shouldn't stick out too much above the ground, but with erosion and shifts underfoot, I want to make sure my dogs won't hurt their paws while running around. I've seen installation guides that mention covering the sharper ends with stakes, but I'd love to get a better sense of how the edges will actually feel along the path. Thanks for any insight!

For the best safety for both pets and people, I'd recommend going with galvanized steel roll top edging. It tends to be more forgiving on paws!
We have Colmet metal edging in our yard, and the only sharp parts are the corners at the ends. We haven't had any issues with our dogs getting hurt by it at all, so it should be fine with proper installation.
If you're worried about sharpness, the heavier gauge aluminum and steel edgings are usually not sharp. Just be mindful of potential burrs that could emerge during installation.
