I'm thinking about starting wood carving and I'm wondering whether Michaels is a good place to buy my tools. Are they worth considering, or should I look for alternatives?

Honestly, you won't find quality carving tools at Michaels. Most of their stuff is pretty cheap and not great for serious work—bad grinds and soft steel are common issues.
I really wouldn’t recommend getting carving tools from Michaels or even from Amazon. You just don’t know what you’re getting with those. Instead, check out specialized woodworking stores like Woodcraft or Rockler. You can get hands-on advice from people who really know their stuff, and they often have better quality tools. Plus, you might find some awesome deals in their scrap bins!

It’s definitely worth visiting those stores in person if you can. The experience is totally different from just shopping online!
