Is Minwax Tung Oil Suitable for Outdoor Acacia Furniture?

I'm considering using Minwax Tung Oil to protect some budget outdoor furniture made from acacia, but I've learned that this product is mainly for indoor use. I'm open to any other recommendations that would be better suited for outdoor applications. Also, if I were to use it, I'm curious about the best way to apply it: should I apply it in thin coats daily and buff it? Since these are rocking chairs, can I lay them on one side for finishing, and will it be okay if the rockers touch the ground while the finish cures? Thanks!

If you're set on using oil, I'd recommend Outdoor Defense Oil. It’s got pure tung oil, citrus oils, and zinc to protect against UV rays. Just note, it’ll give you better protection than the Minwax option. Plus, I might have a 10% off code if you're interested!

You might want to try Meyers 100% tung oil instead. It’s a better overall product and gives a nice finish. However, do follow typical application guidelines: a heavy first coat, wipe off excess, and then thin layers after that. Also, consider applying the bottom at a different time to avoid any issues with curing!

I'd skip Minwax Tung Oil for the outdoor furniture since it’s not really designed for that purpose. Instead, look for a product that offers UV protection. Boiled linseed oil could be a great alternative as it can handle outdoor conditions better than Tung oil does. Just make sure to check the application instructions for best results!
