Is Morning or Afternoon Sun Better for Tomatoes and Peppers?

I have a deck on the south side of my house that gets plenty of sunlight throughout the day. I've heard that afternoon sun can be a bit intense for vegetables. Is there any truth to that? Do tomatoes and peppers thrive better with morning sun versus afternoon sun? I have two of each, so I could test this out!

From my experience, my veggies really seem to love the morning sun more than the burning hot afternoon rays. For instance, my cucumbers are thriving with the morning light. As for my peppers—which are mostly mild and sweet—they definitely prefer the east-facing sunlight, just like my tomatoes. I’ve even used some shade cloth for my tomatoes during the afternoon to shield them from that harsh UV light while still getting the gentler morning sun. I recommend giving the morning sun a shot!

Thanks for the tip! I'm trying to keep mine on the east side too. Fingers crossed they do better; last year was a bit rough.
