Is Moving My Living Room Door Closer to the Wall a Good Idea?

I'm thinking about moving a door in my living room closer to the wall to make better use of the space. We've got five people in the house, and our current setup just feels off. The contractor said it would cost around $3800 because he'd need to take down a closet on the other side and adjust some ducts and electrical work. We want to do this so we can fit a sectional couch comfortably and still be able to enjoy the fireplace. But is this really the best move, or are there smarter solutions I might be overlooking? Also, I'm considering if I might need a bigger TV for the new setup, but that's not a huge deal. Any advice?

Honestly, if you have the budget for it, shifting the door could make the room a lot more functional. I’ve got a sectional for my family of five and it's a game changer. Just make sure it isn't going to make entering awkward from the other side of the door! You might want to think about other furniture arrangements too, but I say go for it if that price feels right!

I get why you want to move it, but from the pic, I'm concerned about the flow. If you're blocking off that door with the sectional, accessing it could be annoying, especially with traffic from the fireplace and TV. Maybe consider a couch and chairs layout instead of a full sectional? You could still create a cozy setup without the hassle of moving that door!

Yeah, that’s a solid point. Sometimes, more flexible seating can make a space feel even roomier without blocking pathways.
