Is My Bathtub Resurfacing a Health Hazard?

Hey everyone! My boyfriend and I just moved into a new apartment about two weeks ago, and the management informed us that they recently resurfaced the bathtub. Since we moved in, there's been a strong chemical or paint smell coming from it, which doesn't seem to go away, especially when I shower. I'm a bit worried about the health implications of this. Just yesterday, I took a bath for the first time and noticed a strange gritty texture developing. It felt like there were tiny grains of sand, but upon closer inspection, it looked more like little bubbles that won't come off. I'm really curious about the cause of this issue and how serious it might be. The management is quite unresponsive unless something is clearly broken, so I'm looking for thoughts on what could be going on and what my options are. Thanks for any feedback!

You might want to try putting a bucket of water and vinegar in the bathroom to help absorb some of that smell. Sometimes they add sand to the resurfacing mix to give it grip, so that could explain the gritty feel. Definitely worth checking on!

Thanks for the tip! It’s strange, though, because the tub was really smooth until I took a bath. Now it feels gritty in some spots, but not all.

Just a heads up—the smell could be dangerous. Resurfacing often uses strong chemicals that need good ventilation. Those bubbles suggest it didn’t cure properly. Keep windows open and use fans, and you might want to push management to address this—your health is priority!
