I recently had a 12x20 concrete pad constructed with the same type of concrete used for residential walkways. I'm considering building a wooden shed on it and want to know if this concrete can support the structure. Specifically, I plan to bolt a wall every other stud along the edge of the concrete. Given that I already have a metal-framed canopy on it that has experienced some wear from winter winds—so much so that one of its legs bent—I'm concerned that adding walls might make the pad crack or break under wind pressure. What are your thoughts?

From my experience, your walkway concrete is likely designed for lighter loads, which may not be ideal for supporting a shed. The thickness and the concrete mix are big factors affecting its weight-bearing capacity. When it comes to adding walls and dealing with wind forces, lateral support is crucial. I've seen a similar setup where strong winds caused cracking—so, precautions are important! Consider using concrete anchor bolts for better stability and maybe reach out to a local expert for advice on whether you need any reinforcements.
