Is My Dad’s Sump Pump Installation Done Right?

Hey everyone, I might get some flak for this, but I really need to know if my dad did a decent job installing these sump pumps. He replaced and reinstalled them but didn't get any lids for them, and we can't seem to find the right size to fit. Also, one of the pumps is sticking out quite a bit, and I'm not sure why. He refuses to call in a pro and insists on handling it himself because he's pretty stubborn. Any advice on what he should do would be super appreciated! Here are some photos of the sump pumps: https://imgur.com/a/XCw0vln

It looks like what you're seeing sticking out is actually the pump itself; those are called pedestal sump pumps where the motor is above the sump pot. Most people prefer submersible ones, but pedestal pumps work just fine too. From what I can see in the photos, everything seems to be in order.

As for the lids, if you can't find a specific one, you can easily make one out of plexiglass or another material. Just cut a circle to fit over the hole, and make a little indent for it to slide over while leaving room for the outlet pipe. Your dad seems to have done a decent job overall!

That's reassuring to hear! I'm asking because the basement has a musty vibe and feels humid, even though it looks dry. I thought it might be because the sump pumps aren't sealed properly.
