Is My Inverter Failing?

Asked By TechieNinja93 On

I'm starting to think my inverter might be on its last legs. My fridge is running hotter than usual, and I've noticed a significant increase in power drain. I even replaced the fridge, thinking it was the issue, but the new one is showing the same symptoms. Is using an oscilloscope the only way to test the inverter? Should I be checking the sine wave?

You might want to grab a Kill-A-Watt meter that shows power factor. If the inverter’s output is off, you'll see that reflected in the power factor too, and it’s much cheaper than an oscilloscope. Just keep in mind, if you do go for an oscilloscope, ensure it can measure the DC portion of an AC signal—this could really affect how electronic motors behave!

Thanks for the tip! This is a bit beyond my expertise.
