I'm currently remodeling my kitchen and removed a wall to create an open concept design. I want to make sure that the load-bearing beam support we installed is sufficient and safe for my house's structure. The kitchen is on the main floor, with bedrooms on the second floor and a basement underneath. Wait, you installed the beam and are just now asking about its safety? That seems a bit risky! Anyway, it's super important to ensure that any load-bearing structures are rated for the weight above them. It’s best to consult with your contractor or an engineer if you have doubts. They can calculate the load your beam needs to handle and recommend whether additional support is necessary.
I totally get wanting to double-check this! It’s smart to be cautious. Since your kitchen has bedrooms above, I recommend having a structural engineer take a look, especially if your contractor’s not experienced with this kind of work. Better safe than sorry! And those before and after photos look amazing by the way!
